my reason for a gamepad is… i found out my pc has an hdmi input, and have used the ps3 controller to play emulated N64 games b4. So… 42 inch screen… or 19 inch screen… hmmm, choices, choices.

i was talkin about portal and thanks

Play what? We are talking about two games at once here, which one are you referring to?

Generally no, if you are using the xinput emulator, you need to edit the ini file it comes with to match your computers controller/joystick settings.

If you are using it for PORTAL, you still need to edit the controller settings manually via either xpadder or the in-game settings. When it comes to PC games, controller support rarely just “works” without configuration.

cool. so i just plug in my ps3 controller with the cable and play?

sorry if im bothering you with so many questions

Reply

seaniccus July 24, 2010 at 1:19 am

Okay, Portal by default, works with several controllers. But fallout 3 is a “games for windows” game with xinput, which means it ONLY works with the xbox360 controller. I don’t own one, so I used an emulator to trick the game into thinking the Wii controller was an xbox controller. Your ps3 controller WILL NOT WORK unless you use the xinput emulator for fallout, but it WILL work on portal regardless.

tom1161 July 24, 2010 at 1:41 am

so “controller support” means it works with several controllers? does it work with a ps3 controller?(i doubt it)

Reply

seaniccus July 24, 2010 at 1:53 am

“controller support” and “xinput support” are different. Xinput relates ONLY and DIRECTLY to xbox 360 controllers, and Xinput games won’t function with ANY other controller. There are special rules. Portal supports controlelrs, but not Xinput, so while xbox 360 controllers work, they won’t automatically have the console controls in the same way Fallout 3 does when used with a 360 controller.

tom1161 July 24, 2010 at 2:06 am

lol im confused, i’ll probably just stick to xpadder

Reply

tom1161 July 24, 2010 at 2:27 am

oh, im not really sure what you mean but on steam it says that both portal and fallout 3 have “controller support” so you can use a 360 controller with it.

Reply

seaniccus July 24, 2010 at 2:46 am

It won’t work with portal, only games that use the xinput framework to use an xbox 360 controller. You’ll wantto get something like xpadder for that. Fallout was specail because it ONLY uses the xbox controller, and NO other game controllers are compatible with it. – but using one gives you the exact same controls as the console version.

That won’t work with portal.

THe xinput emu has NO user interface, it took me hours to figure out. Sorry I can’t help more. Look at my reply to this video.

i know you said you cant remember how to get it to work but. i downloaded it and im kinda confused, i dont have my new pc yet so i cant try it on fallout 3 but i gunna try it on portal. can you remember anything about how u do it. all i know is u put sum stuff in the games exe folder and then what?

Tom, you could do this just as easily, probably easier, with the ps3 controller, but you need the xinput emulator at the site I mentioned as Fallout 3 only “accepts” xbox 360 controllers for the console control scheme, so you need to trick it. I can’t tell you how to get it to “work,” i did this like, a year ago, and I don’t have it working anymore, but you need an “xinput” emulator.

No, the video itself shows it running on my laptop. This is the PC version of the game using the Wii controller through some tricks.

could i do this kinda thing with a ps3 controller. i use xpadder and it works with css but i havn’t got fallout 3 yet so im not sure if it will work fully, like for changing target in vats u use the mouse usually so i dont know if using the dpad or whatever will work?

halofreek109 July 24, 2010 at 5:20 am

ok my question. is it 4 the wii or not?

Reply

seaniccus July 24, 2010 at 6:07 am

That’s not actually a button, it’s a latch release for a “remote holder” that goes into the slots on the back of the controller. Grips and stuff attach to it – but it was pretty much never used.

XioXaio12 July 24, 2010 at 7:05 am

what about that one button that’s directly above the Home button?

@DragonboyVNY carefull. thats a tough game. you screw up on one button and itl cost ya like 3 EN tanks

phazonmetroidsrule22 July 24, 2010 at 9:31 am

@MVinzor becuz then,it would work for almost any system and nintendo wants people to have to buy a wii to use these kinds of controlers. i think nintendo, sony and microsoft should all fuse into one company. then ,maybe, all these accesories wouldnt cost a frigen arm and leg!

For me, classic gaming is all about the D-Pad, baby.
The one thing the GameCube controller didn’t have was a decently-sized, decently-located D-Pad. I have a GameBoy Player on my GameCube and I hated to play GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games with that tiny, uncomfortable thing.
So I got a cheap knockoff GC controller, one of my original Super Nintendo controllers, and hacked them into one. So I pretty much invented the Classic Controller.
The thing is UGLY, but works fantastically.

bLitz72 July 24, 2010 at 8:54 pm

@ashfury I think they should make it standalone wireless without having to connect it to some useless remote. I mean what if I just wanted to play some classic retro games, I don’t want to have to find my wiimote everytime just so I can plug it in. Nintendo Wii is awesome, I just think they should give more free options to gamers, such as being able to use a wireless controller without the remote and being able to use this controller for every wii game (like a choice)
